Story Tree FAQs

This 6-week Series will feature Sandi Hunt as host and reader and she will engage the children to participate. The last class will feature a young San Ramon author, Kiara Shankar, who at age 10, wrote and published the book she will read to us. She is now 13 and a burgeoning author and lyricist.

How were the Books Selected?

We searched through Library sites and book award sites to locate books showing kids and animals being brave, adventurous and curious in nature. We looked for excellent illustrations to captivate the children. From our initial list of 18 "finalists" we narrowed the field with help of a local librarian and a children's education specialist. Sandi Hunt then narrowed the list to the 5 she wanted to read and present, given her long experience teaching nature to children. The sixth book is the one written by our young author and it fits our program design perfectly.

What is in the free "Five Senses Kits?"

San Ramon Nature Park Foundation believes that all learning

should be hands-on and experiential, so we created the

Five Senses Kits for your child.  They contain 5 boxes of objects
or materials your child or children can explore through the sense
that is being most used during the reading. For example, in
Flowers Are Calling the book mostly uses the sense of sight

so that week's kit will focus on things the children can see.

How Long are the Classes?

Approximately 30-45 minutes each.

How Do Children Participate or Watch?

All classes will be live on Zoom at 7:00 pm, Thursdays.
For those who don't use/or don't want to use Zoom, or
who miss a class, we will record each class and email

all parents a private YouTube link the following day. Only

the participants in the class will be able to view this video.

We’ll email you a meeting link and directions the day before each class and suggest you sign in by 6:55 pm. When you get the link, just click it a few minutes before the class begins.

Please use our Contact form to email us with any problems getting started.

To be sure to receive our emails, place the following email address in your contact list: you don't receive youremail, check your junk or spam folder.

What if we miss a class?

We will make our private YouTube recording of the class available to you the next day.

What is the Free Book Drawing?

San Ramon Nature Park Foundation wishes every child in the class would have her/his own copy of all the books but since we can't offer that, we are randomly choosing one parent each week to receive the brand-new book read that week. Parents will be notified by email and pickup arrangements will be made individually. The drawings will not take place online nor will the children be told about them.
